Thank you for participating in West Basin Municipal Water District's Cash for Kitchens Survey Program. It is extremely important in Southern California to use our water resources wisely and efficiently. We appreciate the opportunity to provide you with information about water- and energy-saving practices, devices, and rebates available to your kitchen facility. To develop this report, we've asked you to inspect several types of devices and equipment in your kitchen in order to make recommendations for increasing both water- and energy-use efficiency in your facility. Free Kitchen Equipment Eligibility
Based upon our surveyor's initial assessment of your facility, your kitchen may be eligible for the following device rebates:
Flow Restrictors (0.5 gallons per minute flow rate):

Water and Energy Utility Rebates
Please see below for water and energy utility rebates that your facility may also benefit from taking advantage of. Typically, rebates may be "stackable" if both the water agency and energy utility offer rebates on the equipment. Please read the program guidelines for each agency to confirm eligibility and application steps required.

Faucets are often the most frequently used appliances in a kitchen. Handwashing, rinsing dishes and food, and other cleaning practices all depend on reliable sink faucets. Often times, leaks can go unnoticed and lead to large amounts of water lost down the drain. From a facility manager's perspective, leaks not only incur costs to purchase the water, but also contribute to rising energy and sewer costs for the heating and disposal of the water. On a large scale, these activities (distribution, heating, and wastewater treatment) consume significant amounts of gas and/or electrical energy, depending on your building's energy supply.
During the survey, we determined that your facility
The survey has indicated that your facility may be able to save significant amounts of water and energy through the installation of faucet flow restrictors at several sink locations. These are devices that can be installated below sinks on the incoming hot and cold water lines to reduce the water flowing out of the faucet. West Basin can provide the free Faucet Flow Restrictors for any faucets with flows greater than 0.5 gallons per minute (GPM).
We estimate that
faucets may be eligible for flow restrictor installations.
Your facility can save up to
gallons per year if these devices are installed.
Please review and confirm how each faucet in your kitchen is typically used by employees. For example: there would be no water savings resulting from retrofitting a sink faucet that is only used to rapidly fill mop buckets, pots, etc. since the sink will simply be run longer by employees to compensate for the lower flow rate. Handwashing sinks, restroom sinks, dishwashing sinks, and food preparation faucets are all excellent candidates for flow restrictor installations.
Pre-Rinse Spray Valves (PRSV)
Pre-rinse spray valves (PRSV) are great tools that can effectively dislodge large food particles from dishes, while reducing the amount of water used at pre-washing stations. Low-flow valves are now engineered to work as well as, or better than, standard valves. Depending on the size and workload of your kitchen, a low PRSV could save your facility thousands of dollars in water and energy costs annually!
The survey determined that your kitchen is equipped with PRSVs.
One (or more) of your spray valves was discovered to be leaking, clogged, or showing signs of corrosion during our survey. Leaking or broken spray valves should be repaired or replaced as soon as possible in order to avoid water waste.
We estimate that
of your kitchen's pre-spray valves may be eligible for retrofit, and that your facility can save up
gallons per year if high-efficiency (1.1 gpm) PRSVs are installed by West Basin through this program.
Ice machines vary widely from model to model for their water and energy consumption. Many ice machines still used in kitchen facilities are older, "water-cooled" ice machines, meaning that water is used to make the ice cubes, and also to keep the ice cold. The "cooling" water is then wasted down the drain. The more modern "air-cooled" ice machines utilize an air compressor for keeping the ice cold, and are far more water efficient than water-cooled units. Not only do air-cooled ice machines save water, but they are often more energy efficient as well, and can provide facilities with significant water and energy savings on their utility bills.
Our assessment of this site found that your kitchen is equipped with ice-machine(s).
Water Filters are an important piece of equipment for all types of ice machines to operate properly. Filters are recommended in order to reduce maintenance and cleaning costs, and also to improve the quality of the ice produced. If your facilities utilize ice machines, please make sure to replace water filters regularly to extend the life of your equipment.
Based upon our initial survey of your kitchen, it appears that your facility would not be eligible for an ice machine rebate at this time. The Cash for Kitchens Program is only able to replace existing water-cooled ice machines with more efficient air-cooled models.
Based upon our initial survey of your kitchen, it appears that your facility may be eligible for an air-cooled ice machine rebate of up to $3,000 to replace your existing water-cooled ice machine. Please contact the Cash for Kitchens Program Manager if you have any questions at this time.
New models of "connectionless" (sometimes referred to as boilerless or pressureless) food steamers are recognized as one of the most efficient kitchen appliances available to large kitchens. Traditional boiler-based steamers can consume up to 40 gallons of water per hour. New connectionless steamers operate in a closed system and consume significantly less water and energy than traditional units which require a constant supply of water.
Please Note: West Basin's Cash for Kitchens Program is only able to replace "boiler-based" or traditional food steamers, which are functional and currently in use, with connectionless models.

Based upon our initial survey of your kitchen, it appears that your facility would not be eligible for a food steamer rebate at this time. The Cash for Kitchens Program is only able to replace existing boiler-based steamers with more efficient, "connectionless" steamer models.
Based upon our initial survey of your kitchen, it appears that your facility may be eligible for a connectionless food steamer rebate up to $6,000 to replace your existing steamer model(s). Please contact the Cash for Kitchens Program Manager if you have any questions at this time.

These high-efficiency models use soil sensors, which test how dirty dishes are mid-wash, improved water filters, more eficient jets, and innovative dish rack design to save your facility water and energy.
Please Note: West Basin's Cash for Kitchens Program is only able to replace non-EnergyStar dishwasher units with EnergyStar-certified dishwashers.
