Water Use Efficiency Survey

What is the benefit of filling out a Cash For Kitchens survey?

This survey is a free service to help discover potential water and energy savings for water-using fixtures in your site’s kitchen and restroom areas. The survey is mobile device-friendly and can be completed at your own pace and at your own time! There is a save option in case you need additional time. This program was previously conducted in-person but due to COVID-19 restrictions, West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin) decided to re-launch this program as a contactless and online outreach program to avoid in-person contact and to give interested sites the flexibility needed to complete a survey. http://www.westbasin.org/c4ksurvey

Whom can I contact for help with my survey?

Please contact the C4K program line (888) 274-2167 or email Silvia Gutierrez (sgutierrez@greenmediacreations.com) for assistance with the application or for any other questions or concerns. To speak to a West Basin representative, please contact Jenyffer Vasquez (JenyfferV@westbasin.org) or call (310) 660-6225. You may also contact a representative from our partners, South Bay Cities Council of Governments, Martha Segovia (martha@southbaycities.org) or call (310) 926-5453.

What happens after I complete and submit a survey?

Cash For Kitchens outreach staff will review your survey responses and may contact you if they have any questions or come across missing information. Once the survey is approved, staff will generate a report, which may be emailed or mailed in a contactless water efficiency package along with qualifying small devices and information on large device rebates.

Can I still qualify for large device rebates without filling out a survey?

Ideally we strongly recommend filling out a survey. However, you are also encouraged to apply for a large device rebate whether you fill out a survey or not.

Small Water-Efficient Devices

What is the benefit of installing pre-rinse spray valves?

High-efficient pre-rinse spray valves are designed to remove food waste from dishes in preparation for dishwashing. Spray valves account for one-third of the water used in commerical kitchens. Replacing old, inefficient pre-rinse spray valves with high-efficient models can save a commercial kitchen over 7,000 gallons of water per used. That is equivalent to the amount of water needed to wash 4,800 racks of dishes, according to the EPA. High-efficient pre-rinse spray valves still have rinse power and can reduce water and energy costs by more than $100 per year.

How can I qualify to receive free pre-rinse spray valves?

Please fill out a water use efficiency survey and based on your answers, your site might qualify for free pre-rinse spray valves. You will receive one pre-rinse spray valve per existing and qualified spray valve station.

How do I install my pre-rinse spray valve(s)?

Please view our quick how-to video for a visual demonstration: You may also follow these instructions: Download PDF

How can I confirm that I received and installed my pre-rinse spray valve(s)?

Please visit the Device Installation tab of this portal and follow the instructions. We ask that you take and submit one representative photo of each type of installed device. https://www.westbasinc4k.com/c4kinstalled

What is the benefit of installing faucet flow restrictors?

Faucet flow restrictors are small barriers that help reduce the amount of water that flows out of a faucet. Installing flow restrictors beneath a sink can reduce the water flow to 1.5 gallons per minute or less. That is approximately a 30 percent reduction in water. It is hardly noticeable since the flow remains strong enough despite the restriction.

How can I qualify to receive free faucet flow restrictors?

Please fill out a water use efficiency survey and based on your answers, your site might qualify for free under-the-sink faucet flow restrictors. You will receive one faucet flow restrictor per qualified sink.

How do I install my faucet flow restrictor(s)?

Please view our quick how-to video for a visual demonstration: You may also follow these instructions: Download PDF

Large Device Rebate Incentives

What is the benefit of using ENERGY STAR dishwashers?

ENERGY STAR dishwashers cost about $35 per year to run and will save an average of 3,870 gallons of water over its lifetime. These efficient models also use less energy than conventional models while still getting the job done. Energy and water consumption as well as overall performance are improved factors for ENERGY STAR models with their soil sensors, enhanced water filtration system, efficient jets and innovative dish rack designs.

How do I apply for the ENERGY STAR Dishwasher rebate?

Please visit West Basin Municipal Water District’s online rebate application for ENERGY STAR Dishwashers: westbasin.org/c4kdishwasher You may also download the application here and email it to Jenyffer Vasquez ( JenyfferV@westbasin.org).

What is the benefit of using an air-cooled ice machine v. a water-cooled ice machine?

Commercial air-cooled ice machines are quicker and use less energy and water to make ice. Water-cooled ice machines use more water to cool the system in order to produce ice. Commercial water-cooled ice machines typically waste 130 to 180 gallons of cooling water per 100 pounds of ice, which doesn’t include the water needed to produce the ice itself. 15 to 25 gallons of water are needed to produce 100 pounds of ice. Older ice machines may use approximately 90 gallons of water to produce as much. Installing an air-cooled ice machine may save 219,000 gallons of water!

How do I apply for the Air-Cooled Ice Machine rebate?

Please visit Metropolitan Water District’s website for Commercial Air-Cooled Ice Machine Rebates for more information and to apply for the rebate: https://socalwatersmart.com/en/commercial/rebates/available-rebates/commercial-devices/air- cooled-ice-machines/
